Event at Lakeland Elementary School

Two Lakeland Elementary School students have raised more than $3,500 for UNICEF.

According to a recently issued press release from Lakeland Elementary School, "Lakeland Elementary School students Megan Sorenson and Brittyn Hughes presented a $3,581 check to UNICEF for the organizations annual campaign. The national event raises money for children in foreign countries who are living without basic needs and are unable to attend school regularly. Megan Sorenson and Brittyn Hughes learned about the effort and started a local Trick-or-Treat collection drive in October. On Halloween kids not only ask for candy but also a small donation. The students reached out to several elementary schools including Lakeland Pine Forest and Greentree as well as the District Leadership Team. This combined effort enabled the girls to surpass their initial goal of $3,500 in only two weeks."
