Humble Independent School District fourth-grade classes visited Waste Management's Single Stream Recycling Center this fall to view the facilities operations and learn about recycling.
The goal of the trip was to educate students about the processes and procedures involved in recycling and how recycling can benefit the environment.
The students began their field trip with a bird's eye view of the facility's plastics, paper, cardboard and aluminum can sorting center. The Recycling Center sorts items automatically so Humble and Kingwood residents don't have to.
After touring the sorting facility, the students visited the Recycling Center's educational room to learn more about recycling. The room features an artistic arrangement of recycled materials on the walls and ceiling created by environmental artist Dan Phillips and the Phoenix Commotion Crew.
