Lone Star College-Kingwood to host political forums
Lone Star College-Kingwood will host a series of political forums in October.
The forums are sponsored by the college's Center for Civic Engagement and will feature a number of political candidates up for election in November. The community is encouraged to sit in and learn more about their options.
"We are hosting these forums because we see our role as a resource for students and the community by educating not only workers but also citizens," said John Theis, political science professor and Center for Civic Engagement sponsor, in a press release. "We recognize the fundamental role educational institutions play in building informed citizens and in creating public spaces where dialogue and deliberation can occur with our elected leaders."
The forum is intended to be a non-partisan setting for candidate presentations from various political parties. Events will be at 7 p.m. in the college's Student-Conference Center, unless otherwise noted.
The Republic Congressional candidates will be featured on Monday, Oct. 8; the Democratic Congressional candidates will be featured on Tuesday, Oct. 9; the Libertarian Congressional candidates will be featured on Wednesday, Oct. 10; the Libertarian U.S. Senate candidate will be featured at 12:30 p.m. in CLA 114 on Wednesday, Oct. 10; Green Party Congressional candidates will be featured on Thursday, Oct. 11; Democratic local law enforcement candidates will be featured on Monday, Oct. 15; the Republican local law enforcement candidates will be featured on Thursday, Oct. 18; the Green Party candidate for U.S. Senate will be featured at 12:30 p.m. in CLA 114 on Tuesday, Oct. 23; and the Green Party state and local candidates will be featured on Thursday, Oct. 25.
