Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens announces September events
Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens will offer a series of events throughout September.
On Monday, Sept. 17, Children's Story Time in the garden will present Maureen Wright's "Sneeze, Big Bear, Sneeze." Baldwin Boettcher Children's Librarian Leanne Connery will read the book to young listeners in the garden, followed by a craft project. The free event will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
On Wednesday, Sept. 12, the Lunch Bunch series will present Organics in the Landscape, a discussion of home gardening management, soil and plant nutrition. Mike Serant of San Jacinto Environmental Supply, a local organic fertilizer producer, will lead the presentation. It will be held from noon to 2 p.m.
A three-session course on nature painting with watercolor pencils will be held from 9-11 a.m. on the Saturdays of Sept. 15, 22 and 29. Instructor TD Wilson will work with artists of all experience levels to hone their watercolor pencil skills in Mercer's gardens. The class is $65 for Mercer Society members and $75 for non-members. An artist kit is included.
A more advanced six-week watercolor pencil course will also be held from 1-3 p.m. on the Saturdays of Sept. 15, 22 and 29 and Oct. 6, 13 and 20. This class is for students with experience in the medium looking to advance to a higher level of artistry. The class is $95 for members and $105 for non-members.
The Garden Faire will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 and Sunday, Sept. 23. The event will offer a number of activities for children and plant and craft opportunities for adults.
