Deerbrook Mall extends shopping hours for tax-free weekend

Tax-free weekend is coming up Friday, Aug. 17 to Sunday, Aug. 19, and the stores of Deerbrook Mall are getting ready for the spike in business by extending their regular hours.

Texas shoppers get a break from state and local sales taxes during the state's annual tax holiday. The law exempts most clothing, school supplies and backpacks priced less than $100 from sales and use taxes.

The Texas state sales and use tax rate is 6.25 percent, but cities, counties, special purpose districts and transit authorities may also impose sales and use tax up to 2 percent for a total maximum combined rate of 8.25 percent.

Deerbrook Mall's extended shopping hours for tax-free weekend are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17 and Saturday, Aug. 18. Extended hours for Sunday, Aug. 19 are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Some stores, restaurants and entertainment venues may be open different hours; phone ahead for exact opening and closing times.
