Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center to hold volunteer open house
The Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center welcomes area residents to a volunteer open house at 10 a.m. Aug. 4.
The open house will provide the opportunity for attendees to find out how they can make the park better.
The park has 300 acres that feature natural white sand beaches along Spring Creek, many native species of flora and fauna and other microhabitats. The park also features more than six miles of paved and handicapped-accessible hiking trails, as well a picnic area, fishing along Spring Creek and a playground that offers a separate area for toddlers.
The park also houses the Redbud Hill Homestead, the recreation of an 1830s Texas settler homestead and a nature center the features a permanent exhibit of live snakes and a state-of-the-art audiovisual system.
The staff also provides guided pontoon boat tours and canoe trips along Spring Creek from September to May. Reservations are required.
A summer nature camp is available for children ages 5-12.
The park is located at 20634 Kenswick Drive in Humble. For more information, call 281-446-8588 or email to jjp@hcp4.net.
