Heart attack victim reunites with rescuers
Larry Ledet, 58, receives a plaque from his rescuers after suffering a major heart attack in October.
Larry Ledet, 58, a recent heart attack victim, reunited with the Atascocita Fire Department volunteers who helped save his life.
Ledet was at a gym on Oct. 26, 2011, when he collapsed in the locker room. Roughly 25 minutes passed before a bystander saw him, started performing CPR and called 911.
Jarrod Byrd, Jason Bonjour, Justin Petty, Brian Waller and Mark Mullins came to Ledet’s rescue, regaining his pulse within minutes.
“Mr. Ledet was intubated and received cardiac drugs. He was then transported to Kingwood Medical Center in very critical condition,” said Sean Conley, the fire department’s district chief. “But he never again lost his pulse or went into cardiac arrest.”
Conley said Ledet spent a month in critical care.
Ledet was reunited with his rescuers at a ceremony held March 2 at Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department Station 3.
Conley and assistant chief/EMS Troy Koteras presented Ledet with a plaque inscribed with the names of the rescuers. At the ceremony, the rescuers also received Life Saver awards.
“This is a tremendous group of people,” said Ledet. “I owe my life to them.”
