Local students granted $1,000 Comcast scholarships

Three Houston area students recently were awarded $1,000 scholarships by Comcast as part of its Leaders and Achievers program.

Lauren Martinez of Humble, Alexander Douglas of Atascocita and Katherine Mazanek of The Woodlands were recognized.

The scholarships identify students who act as catalysts for positive change in their communities, are involved in their schools and serve as models for fellow students.

All three plan to attend University of Texas at Austin.

Martinez wants to major in political science and government; Douglas will explore petroleum engineering; and Mazanek will study business.
