YMCA to offer summer swim sessions for kids
YMCA aquatics coordinator Rebecca Chavez and her son, Diego, take advantage of the many summer swim sessions available at the Lake Houston facility.
The YMCA Lake Houston will be offering swim lessons for children of all ages and abilities from July 2-12.
The YMCA is located at 2420 W. Lake Houston Parkway.
Many classes are offered, including parent-child classes (ages 6-36 months), beginner, intermediate beginner and advanced beginner.
Pike (beginner) classes have children adjust to the water and develop independent movement. The class also includes basic stroke and kicking skills, floating and pool safety.
For the Polliwog (beginner) classes, swim placement is required if the swimmers have not taken YMCA swim lessons in the past year.
Two intermediate beginner classes (Eel and Minnow) are for those children who can swim 5 feet up to 25 yards with their faces in the water and who are comfortable in the water. The classes will also teach basic strokes.
Three advanced-level classes (Ray/Starfish, Guppy and Fish/Flying Fish) will also teach swimmers basic strokes, rotary breathing and open turns.
For more information, including dates, times and fees of each class, call 281-360-2500.
