Eagle Springs commemorates rec area with time capsule
published Oct. 18, 2012
Humble Independent School District's Eagle Springs buried an essay-filled time capsule at its new Valley Creek Clubhouse on Saturday, Oct. 6.
Eagle Springs residents wrote essays detailing current life in the community, hoping to shed some light on the past for those who will open the capsule in 25 years. Selected essays, and a few artifacts of current culture, were buried in a ceremony at Spray Park.
Residents wrote about the little things often passed over by history books, providing personal narratives about their experiences in Eagle Springs.
"In 2004, my husband and I found Eagles Springs," wrote resident Shanta Silver, according to a press release. "Here we began our family and started living an adventurous, active lifestyle. We purchased bikes, kayakas and sports equipment that allowed us to thoroughly enjoy the neighborhood, lakes and surrounding nature areas."
"I love coming home from work everyday to the homey feeling of the flowers, trees, parks, pools, joggers, children playing and the neighbors visiting," wrote Deborah Jellel. "This is truly Hometown, USA."
"I love the feeling I get every evening when I come home from work and drive through the Eagle Springs entrance," wrote Nancy Boles. "A feeling of serenity washes over me and I take a deep breath and let go all of the stress from the workday. A smile comes across my face."
Ceremony speaker Kayla Webb, marketing director for Newland Communities, said the time capsule will show how the community first blossomed, and how the Clubhouse first came to be.
"Newland Communities strives to create places where people not only want to live, but places that are sustainable over long periods of time," said Webb. "In 2037, residents will still be bringing their families to enjoy this great amenity."
Eagle Springs is the home of the Eagle Springs Athletic Club and Sports Complex, The Island Club, Eagle Wind Park and a number of amenities across 150 acres of land.
