Catherine Browne to speak at MCABW Feb. luncheon
Catherine Browne to discuss womenâs health issues at MCABW February luncheon Catherine Browne, a board-certified physician in obstetrics and gynecology, will discuss womenâs healthcare issues with members of the Montgomery County Association of Business Women (MCABW) at their February luncheon. The meeting will be held from11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, at The Incredible Pizza Company, 230 South Loop 336 West in Conroe, Texas 77304. The meeting is open to the public. Dr. Browne will touch on several womenâs health topics -- from prenatal vitamins and osteoporosis to mammograms and pap smears. She also plans to offer recommendations on what can be done at every age to improve health. âThere are things you can do in your 20s that can help your health when youâre 90,â she said. âI think women deserve quality, compassionate healthcare, and thatâs why I went into this business,â Dr. Browne explained. Originally from New Mexico, Browne studied at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, before attending medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. She then completed her OB/GYN residency with the U.S. Army in Honolulu. She now lives in Montgomery, Texas and serves as a faculty member at the Lone Star Family Health Center in Conroe. Dr. Browne shares her unique perspective of womenâs healthcare with various audiences, giving lectures when she is not busy caring for patients or spending time with her two children. She says that the Internet has made her patients more aware of health issues, but the information they receive online may not always be current or correct. âThere have been several changes in the past few years when it comes to recommendations for pap smears and mammograms,â Dr. Browne said. âI will discuss some recent controversies as well as the current advice.â Dr. Browne said she wants to help women become better informed of health risks and better equipped to discuss concerns with their physicians. For example, she said that heart disease is a much higher risk for women than breast cancer, yet women typically worry less about their hearts. âItâs important for women to have an idea of what questions to ask their doctors instead of assuming the doctor will just bring important health issues up,â she added. âThis will help women become much more empowered.â The MCABW provides a forum for local businesswomen to support each other â both in their professional and personal lives. The group holds a networking luncheon the fourth Tuesday of every month, as well as a mixer the second Monday of the month.
