Humble resident Mayte Campos has had her share of struggles, but nothing prepared her for the challenge of losing her health to a stroke last month, at age 35. Campos was at her daughters' school on Oct. 29 when she began to feel dizzy, had blurred vision and could not move her left arm. An alert teacher called paramedics, who rushed her to the hospital.

Norman Funderburk, president of the Northeast Hospital Foundation, honors Project Mammogram volunteers, from left, Fran Linton, Berenice Hutton, Toni Schau, Judy Thigpen and Joyce White. The foundation recently honored more than 40 volunteers at a special luncheon hosted by Carrabba’s in Kingwood. Started in 2001 with a grant from by Kingwood Women’s Club, Project Mammogram provides mammograms to uninsured women who can’t afford them or to women who don’t qualify for Medicaid.
