If you have a pet that you love, or are looking for a pet to love, the second Adopt-A-Thon event March 27 at Humble Civic Arena should be on your calendar.
“Our main focus is to highlight pet adoption and give people an opportunity to adopt,” said organizer Tammy Lorkovic of Humble.
In addition to the 20-plus animal rescue organizations that will be on hand with cats and dogs, visitors can bring their animals to have a microchip inserted that will make locating them easier should they get lost or wander. The city of Houston is providing the chips, as well as the venue for the event. The micro chip service costs $10, and owners will fill out a form with identification information.
More than 200 dogs were micro chipped at the last event and several animals were adopted, despite cold, rainy weather, Lorkovic said. Just outfitting a pet with tags can help increase their chances of being reunited with family if they get lost, she added.
“You go in these shelters and it just breaks your heart. It’s not their fault, and we hope to place some very deserving pets.”
The event is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Arena, 8233 Will Clayton Parkway. Call 713-320-1108 for more information.
