The Kingwood Mustangs and Humble Wildcats will renew their long-standing rivalry when they meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Charles Street Park.
Humble will be dropping down to Class 4A at the end of the school year, meaning this could be the last time the two teams ever meet in a district soccer match.
Humble is paced by the goal scoring of Walter Pinon and German Herrera, while Kingwood is led by Spencer Hutchings and Tyler Cheadle.
ABOUT THE GAME
Matchup: Kingwood vs. Humble
When: 7 p.m., Monday
Where: Charles Street
At stake: Pride. These two teams are not having banner seasons compared to year’s past, but when they get together, it is always a great contest, no matter the sport.
Kingwood: MF David Martin, MF Jordan Nichols, F Spencer Hutchings, F Bryce Phillips
Humble: GK Rosendo Mendoza, MF Roger Ramos, F German Herrera, F Walter Pinon
TEAM HIGHLIGHTS
Kingwood: The Mustangs lost to Eisenhower and tied Atascocita during an uncharacteristically slow 2-1-1 start to the District 19-5A race. But their defense has been rock solid for most of the season, which could be the difference in this match. Kingwood shutout MacArthur 2-0 and Nimitz 1-0 in conference clashes.
Humble: The Wildcats have been finding the net more often in District 19-5A play after scoring two goals against MacArthur and one against Aldine. The Cats, however, have to come up with a better defensive strategy if they are going to upset the Mustangs.
