Sgt. Ken Theis of the Humble Police Dept. said officers are taking aim at speeding motorists along all major freeways and service roads running through Humble (U.S. 59, Beltway 8, and FM 1960), as well as around school zones and on Townsen Boulevard.
Townsen has recently proved to be a hot spot for afternoon speeding busts. The roadway is near popular lunch spots such as Deerbrook Mall, Pappas Seafood House, Italiano's Restaurant and more.
On just one day last week, 16 speeding tickets were issued along Townsen Boulevard between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
The crackdown, Theis said, has to do with the high volume of complaints pertaining to speeding drivers along these thoroughfares.
“We're getting two kinds of calls right now. Calls from people reporting the speeding and calls from people who are accusing us of setting speed traps,” he said.
On Tuesday, Nov. 10, between noon and 6 p.m., police issued a total of 28 speeding tickets, all of which were along U.S. 59, FM 1960 and Townsen Boulevard.
